The Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards now in its 15th year continues to applaud the finest in theatre. It was instituted by the Mahindra Group with the objective of becoming a significant platform for celebrating this art.META recognises theatre’s varied elements like playwriting, set, costume and light designing, direction and performance. Over the years, META has succeeded in setting a stage that represents the diverse interpretations of this art form as understood in various regions of the country. The most pressing social issues have been brought to life and given a new perspective by highly acclaimed theatre groups that have participated in the festival. The Mahindra Group, through META, aims to increase awareness and appreciation of Indian theatre, making it the only national arena for recognising and rewarding the industry’s best performing theatres and theatre makers.
The 15th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards will be held from 13th March - 19th March, 2020 in New Delhi. The 10 nominated theatre productions will be staged at Kamani Auditorium or Sri Ram Centre.

The Festival Secretariat invites entries for Emerging and Established Theatre in the following categories:
Theatre productions may be verbal or non verbal and may include physical theatre, puppetry, multi-media and dance.
The award consists of a specially designed trophy and a cheque.
The META Secretariat invites theatre groups, individuals, playwrights and critics to submit their production or recommend a production for META 2020.
Entries will be accepted between 15th August 2019 to 31st December 2019 for the 15th edition of the Festival.
A Selection Committee comprising of eminent personalities from the field of performing arts will carefully select 10 plays that will finally be staged in Delhi. Nominations will be announced on our website in February 2020.
Theatre productions must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the awards:
In the event that the production is nominated for the Festival, groups will be invited to stage the play in New Delhi in March 2020 as part of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards and Festival.
The schedule as decided by the Secretariat is not bound to be influenced by the availability of a production to perform on any specific date of the Festival. Applicants are requested to be aware of the Festival dates and shall make themselves available in case of selection.
Nominees in each award category are expected to attend the Award Ceremony compulsorily in the formal attire.
10 Selected plays will have to perform a 1- minute excerpt from their play at the awards night ceremony in their respective costumes.
